THERE can be little doubt that PRINCE SIEGFRIED (Goodwood, 3.45) is back to his very best and made it two wins from his last two starts when landing the Winter Hill Stakes 25 days ago.
That was the Royal Applause gelding's first Group win and he achieved the feat in some style, beating off stiff opposition including five horses rated 110 or better. Clearly revelling in the rain-softened going, he found more and more when asked and came out on top of a sustained duel with the favourite Dux Scholar. The third-placed horse was rated 113 and trailed in over four lengths in arrears. My stopwatch was impressed and with Godolphin-trained horse dropping back in class with conditions expected to suit again, it will be disappointing not to see the hat-trick landed.

HAMLOOL (Newmarket, 4.55) is an interesting runner with a host of big-race entries to his name, including the Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The Red Ransom colt posted an eyecatching run on his seasonal debut at Lingfield earlier this month. It was only his second outing and still green, it took some time for the penny to drop. However, when it did he finished in taking style, and was closing fast on the 101-rated winner Dubawi Gold. Unfortunately, the line came just too soon and he was beaten just half a length. Now better for the experience, Clive Brittain's well regarded inmate can improve still further and take this Listed contest which has a recent dire record for favourite backers.

AS we saw on Saturday, the ability to handle the going is paramount and WEAPON OF CHOICE (Goodwood, 4.20) will have no problems on that front on Sunday.
The Ifraaj colt was unlucky to come up against one of Richard Hannon's many juvenile winners on debut but posted a solid effort in defeat. Whilst the winner had the better pace at the business end of the race, the selection still powered through the soft to finish three and a half lengths clear of the third, a heavily oods on favourite. The effort looks even better now as the Hannon horse - Vanguard Dream - has now won three times including a decent Newbury nursery. Today's race looks average for the track and it would be a surprise if Weapon Of Choice was not good enough.

ALL eyes on Goodwood as all three of my top ratings line up at the Chichester venue, with SUD PACIFIQUE (Goodwood, 2.35) leading the way on Wednesday.
An engagement for the well regarded two-year-old was swerved a few days ago due to going concerns but the Sussex Downs' turf is expected to be perfect after an improvement in the weather. The Montjeu colt, who cost a cool 600,000 euro, was blanketed into the stalls on his debut at Newcastle but ran a solid race by my stopwatch on the rain-softened ground. He looked a slighty lazy individual but the Racing Post and 2011 Derby entry will have come on plenty for the expterience and, if he gets his act together, could be smart.
Course experience can be vital and BRANDYWELL BOY (Goodwood, 3.10) was a winner at this meeting last year over 5f.

SECRET LOVE (Lingfield, 5.40) is well bred, cost 80,000gns and can go some way to repaying some of the investment on Tuesday.
The half-sister to Mastoora and Illustrios Prince made a most promising debut at Kempton last month, not beaten far by a heavily odds on hotpot trained by Godolphin. For quite some way in the race, she travelled sweetly and it was only in the final that she was put in her place by the more experienced, Ragsah. Clearly well regarded at home, the two-year-old holds plenty of late season entries, including in the Group 1 Meon Valley Stud Fillies' Mile at Ascot later in the month. She looks a horse with potential and her debut speed figure puts her in with a big shout today in a fascinating all-weather maiden.

JUST four go to post for today's feature Celebration Mile and POET'S VOICE (Goodwood, 3.05) can make the most of a winnable opportunity and collect another Group 2 prize for Godolphin.
The Sussex Downs resembled the Somme on Thursday when the track's evening card was abandoned due to flash floods so quite what the ground will be like today is open to question.
Poet's Voice doesn't crave deep conditions but he did cope with ground softer than the official going description of good to firm at Salisbury last time.
Godolphin's representative was narrowly beaten by the tough and progressive Sea Lord that day in a competitive Group 3 and a repeat of that form could make him tough to beat upped in grade this afternoon.
