Plumpton (Monday 30 January)
Knock Boy had to be taken on at his SP of even-money thanks to a 0-20 record under Rules going into this race and a preference for right-handed tracks (he tends to jump out to his right, which explains why seven of his last eight runs have taken place that way round). He found nothing for pressure, as is often the case, trading at 1.12 in running before fading into third.
Wolverhampton (Monday 30 January)
Lastkingofscotland did my Trend Horses Pro clients a favour when scoring over here on 9 January and was unlucky in a 6f handicap at Lingfield on his next start where a badly-hampered eighth of 11.

Wolverhampton (Monday 16 January)
There would appear to be two types of winners of big-field 6f handicaps at Wolverhampton nowadays - those who sit just behind the leaders from stalls 4, 5 or 6 when the early pace isn't overly strong then challenge wide of the inside rail and those who pounce late from a wide draw (stalls 10-12 best) when the front-runners go off too fast. The latter situation occurred in the Ringside Conference Suite - 700 theatre Style Handicap in which Sweet Ovation (stall 10) picked up the front-running Gabrial's Princess (stall 1) close home to score by three-quarters of a length. Since the beginning of November 2011 the draw stats for 6f Wolverhampton handicaps for 10+ runners are as follows...

Southwell (Tuesday 3 January)
On The Cusp, an all-the-way four-length winner over 1m here on 27 December, was sent off as the 11-10 favourite for the Exclusive Live Shows at bluesq.com handicap but could only finish a 19-length fourth of five. The track was massively favouring his running style when he scored here on his previous start and the others winners on that day - all of whom made all or most of the running - could well be worth opposing on their next starts...

Plumpton (Monday 2 January)
Diamond Brook was backed from the early 7-1 into 3-1 second favouritism for the 3m5f At The Races Sussex National but was badly hampered and unseated his rider at the first fence, one of several who failed to complete the course.

Catterick (Tuesday 13 December)
Bourne seemed happiest in big fields on the Flat when with Luca Cumani - his wins coming in fields of 14, 18 and 8 runners, the latter victory when odds-on for a weak contest - and he beat 13 rivals when making a successful start to his jumps career for Donald McCain. He might also prove best when fresh, this win came after a 72-day layoff and his two big-field wins for Cumani also came after long breaks (211 and 168 days). With that in mind he could be one to oppose at a short price if turned out quickly.
Folkestone (Tuesday 13 December)
Emmaslegend was heavily supported prior to her chase debut and duly obliged, the 2-1 favourite coming home 20 lengths clear in the 3m1f beginners' contest.

Kempton (Thursday 8 December)
Low-drawn runners were favoured on the outer track (i.e. all distances except 5f and 1m2f), especially those that made a dash for the inside rail when the cutaway appeared, the winners coming from...
Stall 1 of 12 (7f maiden)
Stall 6 of 6 (1m maiden, the winner was 2-5 favourite and would have won from anywhere)

Stall 5 of 11 (6f handicap)
The bias towards low-drawn runners in big-field 6f handicaps has been massive in recent weeks...

Basically, if you're not drawn in stall 1 to 6 you might as well stay at home.

Lingfield (Friday 2 December)
Lujeanie needs to be produced late off a strong pace but struggles in big fields, as he tends to encounter traffic problems. The ideal number of runners for him is between eight and 12, and he justified heavy support (11-4 from 4-1 on course and being even bigger in the morning) in the 6f handicap. His full 6f record in fields of eight, nine, ten, 11 or 12 runners now reads: 414181761522731 (5-15), improving to: 14111522731 (5-11) in cheekpieces when returned to the track within six weeks of his previous outing.
Wolverhampton (Friday 2 December)
Loyalty is proving hard to beat on Polytrack, his neck-verdict over Marco Botti's Famusa in the 8.6f Class 4 conditions contest taking his record on the surface since his All-weather debut to: 1223132811371 (5-13), with the latest defeat coming at Listed level.
